Welcome to Tori’s Class! 

2023-2024

Dear third and fourth grade families,

Welcome to a new year at Ann Arbor Open School! My name is Tori Jovanovski, and I am excited to see you again, or to get to know your child and your family for the first time. This year marks my eighth at Ann Arbor Open, and my third at the 3/4 level. I’m looking forward to building our community and getting down to the important work of learning together.

As we start our year, my first priority will be to nurture the sense of connection that makes our school so special. Together we will make sure that Room 245 is a place where each person feels safe, welcome, and known. In addition to caring for each person in our own classroom, we will also learn and work toward building a more just world for all people, wherever they may be. I feel so fortunate to be your child’s teacher, and I am eager to begin our time together!

Some quick notes to help you prepare for Monday:

• Please make sure your child brings a water bottle every day, since all of our drinking fountains have been converted to bottle filling stations. 

• Lunch is late for 3/4s, so please send your child with a snack to tide them over. Students in our class are welcome to eat a snack whenever they feel hungry, or our morning recess (usually around 10:00 am) can serve as a good moment to eat.

• I’m attaching our specials schedule. Some items to note are that students should bring gym shoes on Wednesdays and swim gear on Thursdays. It’s possible we won’t be in the pool yet in the first week–I’ll let you know once I hear.

• Students in our class will get AAPS Chromebooks for the year soon, which they will need to bring in on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (for Spanish and Library). I’ll also send you an email on days we are using them in class for projects or activities.
